Dr. George Sakellariou
The doctor, surgeon, George Sakellariou was born in Athens. After the circular studies and after entrance exams, he was admitted to the Medical School of the University of Athens, from which he graduated in 1980 with a grade of “Very Good”.
This was followed by military service and field service (agricultural doctor), which took place for eleven months at the Lampeia Health Station in the prefecture of Ilia and for eleven months at the Oxylithos rural clinic in the Kymi area of the prefecture of Evia.
Education
December 1984-December 1985.
First year of training in General Surgery at Koutlimbanio General Hospital of Larissa, under the supervision of the late Director Athanasios Agorogiannis and the late Curator Evangelos Naoum.
December 1985- December 1989.
Continuation of the specialty at the First Teaching Surgery Clinic, at the Hippocratic General Hospital of Athens with Director Professor Vassilis Golematis and which lasted until December 1989.
August-December 1989.
In parallel with the specialty time, from the end of August until the beginning of December 1989, George Sakellariou, was in Houston, USA (Baylor College of Medicine), participating in an exchange program between the University of Athens and the said college, which was founded by Professor of Cardiac Surgery Panagiotis Asimakopoulos, then Clinical Professor of Baylor College of Medicine. During this time, he was involved in pancreatic, liver, biliary and stomach surgery under Professor of Surgery Paul H. Jordan Jr. and participated in the entire clinical work of the Professor’s team. In addition, he was involved in traumatology under Professor Kenneth Mattox at the Ben Taub Hospital Trauma Center, Houston, Tx, USA.
Postgraduate training
January 1992- January 1993.
Fellow of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, USA) for one year, focusing on pancreatic surgery and rare endocrine tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, as well as severe oncological cases.
January 1993-April 1994.
Salary Visiting Assistant Professor of Surgery, dealing with endocrine gland surgery and severe and interesting oncological cases.
He has also been trained and retrained in many seminars of various conferences, as well as in scientific seminars outside conferences with various scientific interests.

Scientific research
January 1993- January 1994.
He researched “the relationship between chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer”, under the supervision and guidance of Huan Le Chago, a professor of Pathology at Baylor College of Medicine.

• 2nd semester of 1994 and the 1st semester of 1995. Extraordinary Professor of Surgery, 1st degree, at the Nursing School of the TEI of Athens.
• 2002-2003. Director of the Surgery Clinic, in the private clinic “Euroclinic of Athens”.
• March 2015-April 2019. Director of the Surgery Clinic of the “HYGEIA” Hospital in Tirana, Albania.
Professional experience
In all the above-mentioned positions, he performed a large number of surgeries, as chief surgeon. He also supervised specialist surgeons to perform – trained in general surgery.
From October 2002 until today, he deals systematically with endocrine gland surgeries and the largest number of them (over 90%) are thyroidectomies, parathyroidectomies, adrenal resections and other related surgeries.
At the same time, he developed his own pioneering method for performing thyroidectomies. The method is based on the use of a bipolar neurosurgical forceps, which gives extremely important advantages, such as reducing the time of surgery, eliminating postoperative pain, low cost and excellent aesthetic result. To date (2021) he has performed over 2600 surgeries with excellent results.
From April 2015-to May2019, as Chef of Surgical Department of the Hospital of Tirana, Albania, he performed a variety of surgeries, approximately over 1200, of varying severity, which covered the entire range of General Surgery.
From June 2019- to Nov. 2019, main surgeon in private hospital :Continental:in Tirana,Albania.
From Jan 2020- Jan 2024, main surgeon in private hospital American2:in Tirana,Albania.
The surgeon George Sakellariou, worked, during his many years of professional career, exclusively in the private sector, in many clinics both in Athens and in the city of Tirana, Albania.
Teaching experience
The teaching experience of the surgeon George Sakellariou begins from the time of his specialty, where he was responsible for teaching surgical pathology to a group of four-year and six-year medical students at the First Teaching Surgery Clinic of the University of Athens at Hippocrates University.
Subsequently, at the University Surgery Clinic of the General Hospital of Nikaia, Piraeus, the teaching included, in addition to the surgical pathology, the graduate students, and the execution of various surgeries to the specialized surgeons, who were trained in Surgery and obtaining the relevant specialty.
In the USA he taught surgical pathology to those specialized in General Surgery.
Finally, at the TEI of Athens he taught the course of General Surgery for two semesters.
